I am writing this comment not for myself, but for my superhero mother: Charmaine Donald. My mother, the epitome of a soul mama, is 115% … (actually infinity) deserving of winning a time out for soul nourishment and pampering this lovely Mothers’ Day. My mother is the most intentional, beautiful, intelligent, graceful, powerful, SELFLESS black woman that I know in my life.
Being born in Barbados and having to come to America with not the most lucky and privileged background, she is full of ambition and self-determination. She worked tirelessly to create a better world and upbringing for my siblings and I than what she had. Whenever I think of the word selfless I immediately think of my mother. She is is a mother of 3 children (me being the middle child) and is ALWAYS I mean ALWAYS providing for us and often neglecting herself. I have noticed that as I grew older and made a point emphasize the importance of self-care and self-love to her. She would always reply with “if you all are happy, then I am happy.”
My mother recently made the brave and bold decision to put herself first and pursue her higher education journey. She is currently balancing an Online Master’s Degree in Mental Health/Wellness, while taking care of her own mother who suffers from mental illness issues, and supporting all of us. I never know how she does it, but she gets it done and she gets it done well. I am happy to see her pursuing her passions and carving more time for herself, but I still feel like she can do better.
Winning this gift for my mother would be an amazing for my mom to create a day just for herself where she can start reflecting on how to practice more sustainable self-care practices for the rest of the year and beyond. It would be a great stress-relief as well. I want to give my mother the world, but before I can afford that I still want to shower her with intentional gifts along the way. Thank you for this opportunity to do that. My email is amdon0430@gmail.com
